Lucy Cornwell, 2016 Honorary Secretary

How does it feel to be the newly announced Honorary Secretary?

It was a great honour to be announced the Secretary for 2016! There is such a great team on the House Committee and I am extremely excited about being a part of the team and representing St Andrew’s.

What do you hope to achieve in this position in 2016?

The position of Honorary Secretary has a significant role in the operational aspect of college. The ‘Sec’ is responsible for assisting in the decision making and organising of the Students’ Club affairs as well as being in charge of the communication between the House Committee and the majority of the students. I hope to achieve this communication effectively and be a friendly face for all new and existing students in 2016.

What do you perceive as being some of the challenges you may face?

In taking on the Sec responsibilities, particularly the room draw, I envisage that at times I may have to make difficult decisions regarding my close friends. This will undeniably be challenging at the best of times, however I hope that my experience as a leader at school, and the mutual respect that I share with my friends, will stand me in good stead to act impartially and fairly.

What are you most looking forward to as Honorary Secretary?

I think the role lends itself to an enhanced involvement in the College, and so I am looking forward to immersing myself in my third year and becoming completely absorbed in the unique community. I’m excited at the prospect of the new fresher intake, as well as reinforcing strong bonds that I have created over the past couple of years.

Jake Carr, 2016 Honorary Treasurer

How does it feel to be the newly announced Honorary Treasurer?

I’m honoured. It’s a great sign of confidence from the Students’ Club to elect me into a position of such responsibility. I’m very appreciative to be able to represent St Andrew’s as Honorary Treasurer in 2016.

What do you hope to achieve in this position in 2016?

I hope to continue to the outstanding work of Treasurers past. Over the past two years, the treasurers have worked tirelessly to ensure the Students’ Club remains in a healthy financial state, allowing us to create committees that benefit the entire college. I plan to use the foundation of my predecessors to continue the growth that I have witnessed during my time at Andrew’s.

What do you perceive as being some of the challenges you may face?

Managing the budget is going to be a massive challenge. All facets of college need to be equally represented, which will lead to tough compromises. Additionally, being a part of the House Committee presents us with making the hard decisions for the college, where not everyone will always be happen. In this challenge, I trust us to make the right decision for the Students’ Club.

What are you most looking forward to as Honorary Treasurer?

I most look forward to revitalising old committees that have fallen out of popularity and to create new committees that engage the entirety of the Students’ Club. I acknowledge the importance of events and clubs that focus on participation and inclusion; these are the types of activities I want to encourage in my role.
