St Andrew’s College Children’s Camp – Get Involved!

October 7, 2015

2015 marks the fourth year that the Sony Foundation Children’s Holiday Camp for children with physical and intellectual disabilities will be held at St Andrew’s. The camp is a not-for-profit organisation run by residential students of the college and the broader Sydney University community.

Each year the camp has expanded the number of children and companions and now allows the opportunity for 18 children to attend the camp. We endeavour to make the camp better and more enjoyable for all those involved. Our first fundraiser event ‘Sip for Sony’ held on 16 August was a huge success and we are very grateful to all those who
attended. This year we aim to offer a range of activities including swimming, music sessions, dance groups, sailing, and a petting zoo. The camp is at no expense to the children and their families, and this would not be possible without the support of the Sony Foundation and the St Andrew’s College community.

The committee is reaching out to the college community for assistance in the following:

1. Volunteers to be night settlers on camp
– Night settlers are invited to join the activities scheduled in the evening and get to know the kids over dinner
– Night settlers help the kids prepare for bed while their companion attends reflection sessions
– We are looking for 10 night settlers to help out each night from 3 – 6 of
December 2015

2. Care package donations
– Care packages are given to families upon arrival with gifts to help them
relax and enjoy their 4 days of respite
– Care package items can be home comforts, nibbles or gift vouchers

3. Professional photographer
– We would like to provide families with a professionally developed
photograph of them and their children from their arrival at the camp
– If anyone has a contact who would be interested in volunteering to take
photos for 2 hours on the morning of 3 December please contact us

4. Accommodation for rural families
– We would like to offer families travelling from rural NSW a place to stay in Sydney while their child enjoys the Sony Camp
– Sponsoring a family for Hotel or Air BnB accommodation would be most suitable

If you are able to help us with any of the above initiatives or be able to put us in touch with someone, please contact the committee at

If you would like to keep up to date with the camp so far feel free to visit our website at or visit our new Facebook page
