On Tuesday 8 July the College Council farewelled Robert Harper (1979) after nine years as Chair of Council.
During his tenure, Robert – who is the third generation of Harpers to have been Chair of Council following in the footsteps of his great-grandfather Andrew Harper and father Ian Harper – has overseen the development of the Master Plan, which will increase the number of students able to have the St Andrew’s experience and secure the College’s financial future. The Council honoured Robert’s vision and tireless work by naming it the Harper Master Plan.
Robert thanked the Council for the honour, saying that it had been a privilege to be Chair of Council. He also thanked the Principal for his support and friendship and the Students’ Club who always stepped up to the, sometimes enormous, challenges that faced them.
The Principal thanked Robert for his guidance and counsel during his tenure and noted that the great respect and friendship between them was the envy of other Colleges and one of the keys to the current successful operation of the College.
The incoming Chair of Council, Charlie Taylor (1982), thanked Robert for his leadership and strategic vision which lays the foundation for the College’s future. We look forward to giving members of the St Andrew’s community the opportunity to meet Charlie and hear his vision for the future.
