2019 Regional Outreach Program

The St Andrew’s College Outreach Program was created in 2019 to further our commitment to regional, rural and remote Australia.

The schemes within the Program aim to promote the importance of collegiate life and inform the students about our $1.6 million offering in scholarships and bursaries.

There are three projects that form part of the Program:

  • Regional Interview Scheme
  • Expos
  • School Visits

Regional Interview Scheme

St Andrew’s recognises it can be incredibly difficult for students in regional areas to learn about College let alone travel to Sydney to complete an interview. Many regional students with limited financial resources also refrain from applying as a result of not being aware of our broad range of scholarships and financial assistance.

For these reasons, this year SAC embarked on a 3-day visit to Armidale, Tamworth and Glen Innes to provide information to and interview 16 students from local high schools such as Glen Innes High, The Armidale School, Armidale Secondary College, Calrossy Anglican School and Oxley High.

SAC also engaged with more than 30 careers advisors and community representatives across the New England region and was featured in local newspapers such as the Armidale Express.

Expos

The College had a presence at more than 35 expos across Australia (key regional areas include Taree, Port Macquarie, Newcastle, Adelaide, Brisbane and Orange) to speak to prospective applicants about the value St Andrew’s College could add to their post-school lives.

School Visits

School visits within the Outreach Program aim to engage regional and government school students who may have never heard about residential colleges before. In 2019, SAC visited many regional and government schools including Punchbowl Boys High, Nambucca Heads High, Armidale Secondary College, Gosford High and Merewether High.

Future – what lies ahead?

Any interested high schools can contact our Outreach Officer: outreach@standrewscollege.edu.au for further information or to schedule a visit in 2020.

Our College remains committed to enabling access to Andrew’s to regional students by continuing this program in 2020. We look forward to updating our community with our progress next year.
