Maisie McFadyen – Alumni Liaison Representative, 2020

Elections were held in College in October to determine the 2020 House Committee.

We are proud of our elected students and look forward to introducing them to our community.

Maisie McFadyen will be a part of our leadership team as the Alumni Liaison; here she speaks to us about her vision for next year.

Degree: Bachelor of Law/Bachelor of Business

What I am most looking forward to in 2020 at College: I am most looking forward to meeting the new cohort of freshers, as well as being able to make a difference through my alumni position. I think there is a great opportunity to grow the College’s professional development sector; to make it as accessible and useful as possible.

What I hope to achieve in the House Committee in 2020: My main goal for the role of Alumni Liaison is to boost student awareness of the Professional Development Program, and create more events involving the Young Alumni community. I hope to do so by firstly, outlining the program clearly to College at the beginning of the year. This way, everyone will have a clear idea of the opportunities available, and can begin to get excited about the upcoming events. Also, by creating more events with the Young Alumni, I hope that this would not only help them to stay connected with the Drew’s community, but also encourage more participation from students. It is my belief that the Young Alumni group can offer valuable knowledge about career paths post-Drew’s; their tips and advice are extremely valuable.

Alongside these two main goals, I also hope to achieve smaller goals such as establishing a Drew’s LinkedIn group, and creating a general careers event for students to gain information about a broad range of industries.

Advice for 2020 freshers: My advice is to give everything a go. Even though some activities may sound challenging and perhaps not exactly up your alley, I can assure you Drew’s is the best place to try new things. Be it joining the band, choir, trying out for as many sports as possible, or going to a few Senior Common Room evenings, every opportunity is worth taking.
